Wes Edens was born in 1961 in Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Finance and Economics.
After college, he began his career as a financial analyst at Lehman Brothers. In 1987, he joined the private equity firm Blackstone Group. At Blackstone, he helped to grow the company’s real estate business. In 1993, he left Blackstone to co-found Fortress Investment Group.
In 2014, he became the owner of the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. He is also a part of the ownership group for English Premier League club Aston Villa. He purchased a minority stake in the club in 2018. Notably, in 2014, Edens and Marc Lasry paid $550 million to purchase the Milwaukee Bucks from former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl. The team is valued at $675 million as of 2019.
